Summons, survival and dungeon decisions

Research for Oath of the Last Bone and the Manga Atlas reading guide. November 6, 2026.

The strongest connection to the game is a rule the comic shows in action. Lin Moyu’s summons absorb damage aimed at him. The early dungeon also makes a distinction between the cost of creating a summon and the value of a creature after deployment. A second series, The Lone Necromancer, is the closer reading match for turning fallen enemies into a party. These sources suggest different systems that can be combined in an original game.

Evidence and spoiler boundaries

  • Publisher means an official series description or production page states the premise. It supports broad catalog tags.
  • Chapter means the cited event, mechanic, or interface is observable in a freely readable chapter of the official English edition. Chapter and episode numbers below are for the linked edition. The early-chapter discussion contains spoilers.
  • Design means a proposed rule or test for Oath. It has no bearing on how a catalog title should be tagged. Game developer references are precedents for gameplay, separate from evidence about the comics.

Evidence Verified observation Design implication
Publisher KuaiKan says Lin Moyu will live while his summoned creatures remain. The English publisher establishes a rare profession, leveling and an undead army. The class fantasy is that a unit has survival value beyond its attacks. KuaiKan, Tappytoon
Chapter, episode 1, ceremony The teacher calls the installation a transfer magic matrix. Students enter a glowing circle with visible crystals. Moyu stands inside it as the reveal starts. Other students receive farmer, chef and elemental mage outcomes. An instructor says academic performance does not correlate with profession transfer. An oath stone and player choice among bindings are Oath’s interpretation. The source gives a public reveal, varied results, and social responses. It does not establish Moyu touching a single rock. WEBTOON episode 1
Chapter, episodes 1–2, progression The status display shows Strength, Agility, Spirit and Physique, starting summon capacity of 10, an initial warrior skill and a separate targeted spirit attack. The first warrior is an Iron skeleton with no special ability. Later it becomes a Bronze warrior with an active burst. Episode 2 shows ordinary stats rising with level and a larger Spirit increase at the mage-class milestone. Separate personal stats, the number of available units, and what those units can do. Player allocation of points is a game rule. These chapters show automatic increases and profession effects. WEBTOON episode 1, episode 2
Chapter, episodes 1–2, survival The ending of episode 1 reveals the Damage Transfer passive. Damage directed at Moyu is absorbed by summoned creatures. A dormant Whiplash Tree attacks him in episode 2 and triggers the passive. These pages establish a damage redirection event and the publisher establishes the broader survival condition. The pages leave damage allocation across several summons and out-of-range effects unresolved. Oath’s once-per-expedition revival at the end of the enemy phase is a separate rule. It makes the entire forecast matter and lets the player see whether any summon survives it. WEBTOON episode 1, episode 2
Chapter, episodes 1–2, deployment Creating a new skeleton consumes Spirit. A creature already in the summoning space can be redeployed without spending more Spirit. Capacity increases with level. An attacked skeleton can receive a counterattack command and retaliates automatically after a ten-second timeout. The starter run shows a distance limit and a map traced by the skeletons’ tracks. Separate creation, roster capacity, and command range. Units can offer information and control before they deal damage. A safe autonomous default can reduce clicks, but in Oath it should be part of the forecast if it changes the survival outcome. WEBTOON episode 1, episode 2
Chapter, episode 2, dungeon and field The beginner instance has twelve hours and a fixed enemy population. The physical exit lies beyond the higher-level forest, and participants still inside leave automatically at the limit. Moyu clears early, reaches the instance’s practical XP ceiling, and gets a city exit pass to hunt more dangerous field monsters. A trade board lists ordinary material requests and a mine contract requiring an item from a boss at the appropriate difficulty. A good expedition has an objective, a boundary on profitable actions and a clear destination. Give separate meanings to a victory objective, optional contract and route out. WEBTOON episode 2
Chapter, episodes 3–4, role counters An archer’s mark stops a Shadow Assassin from using stealth. A mage identifies illumination as a second stealth counter and says it improves spell accuracy. An opposing knight temporarily uses a strong defense. Moyu’s undead warriors can spot an attempted encirclement. These scenes are skirmishes, not the comic’s dungeon boss fights. Use support actions that modify enemy verbs and intent. Mark a scout, open a guarded route, or reposition before the enemy commits. Avoid reducing these roles to interchangeable damage. WEBTOON episode 3, episode 4
Chapter, episode 4, corpse spending A skill scroll gives Moyu Corpse Detonation. Its starting description ties area damage to the corpse’s life value. Moyu works out that a detonation can create other corpses to detonate. The observed warrior-creation resource is Spirit. Beast bones are also shown as materials or trade goods, separately from the on-field detonation target. A single remains token shared by Raise and a later Burst is an original economy. If added, cap how many bodies a single action can trigger and forecast all consumptions. WEBTOON episode 2, episode 4
Chapter, episode 5, mine and boss Moyu chooses the Nightmare mine after hearing that it has stronger and more numerous elites. The run proceeds from guards to dense wolf groups and an inner boss. Detonation pays off against the wolf group. The final chief lists Flame Jet, Sweep and Knockback. Moyu identifies his own low defense as the formation’s weak point, and contrasts a warrior’s strength disadvantage against the boss with the advantage of having a whole squad. Give swarms, single targets and the caster different vulnerabilities. A boss can pressure the anchor while a pack rewards area control. The episode confirms a boss moveset and positioning pressure. Oath’s turn forecast and interrupt targets remain original. WEBTOON episode 5

Avoid carrying over the comic’s exact damage numbers and progression multipliers. The starting chapters give Moyu an exceptional boost and let him dominate weak enemies. Oath has a different need: threatening enemies should still have meaningful counterplay when the squad is growing. The official English chapter also varies the wording for the spirit attack across status and narrative panels, so catalog annotations should describe the function in plain language.

Adjacent reading and what each title adds

Work Evidence Transferable pattern
The Lone Necromancer Publisher: a college class receives role prompts in an unfolding catastrophe. Chapter, episodes 1–2: Seongwu chooses from cards and gains a goblin skeleton from the encounter. The game interface reports that he reached his command cap and later offers an attribute choice at level-up. Closest reading match for Oath’s player choice and binding of fallen enemies. Pair the role reveal with a protection or evacuation problem. Keep the first recruit physically near the fight so a new player sees what changed. WEBTOON series, episode 1, episode 2
The Lone Necromancer, campus boss Chapter, episode 6: the UI describes synergies for three swords and for equipping the one-armed warrior. A goblin skeleton absorbs the captain’s mana and gains defense and a commander role. Bone weapon crafting unlocks separately. Add a single upgrade based on what a recruit did, or a clear formation bonus based on who is present. A defender’s injury can create a different role rather than making a unit useless. Hold the multi-unit bonus and bone crafting for a separate playtest. WEBTOON episode 6
Necromancer Academy and the Genius Summoner Publisher and production studio: Simon has latent necromantic talent, enters a specialist academy, and belongs to a world where conflict with priests matters. Explain a unit’s role through an exam or task built to show the role’s strength. A faction can pressure a technique without rendering the class unusable. Tapas, Contents Lab. Blue
The Skeleton Soldier Failed to Defend the Dungeon Publisher: a skeleton fails to protect Lady Succubus and returns twenty years earlier. Its starting weakness is part of the premise. Give an undead defender agency and a protection objective. Recurring memories can give a weak unit useful knowledge rather than a damage multiplier. The premise is regression, separate from master-to-minion damage transfer. Tappytoon
SSS-Class Revival Hunter Publisher: a Tower entrant can copy an ability after being killed. Chapter, Skill Activation: one card copies a random skill from the killer and limits repeat copying from the same enemy. A second card rewinds 24 hours after death and retains skills and memories. The two cards separate the reward for defeat from the time and state reset. If a future mode uses repeated attempts, let one retained observation change the next turn. Oath’s one-time anchor preserves the board state and stays focused on the current fight. Tapas series, Skill Activation
Dungeon Reset Publisher: Dawoon survives a trap and a glitched dungeon reset, gaining unconventional utility skills. Give chambers another legitimate solution, such as an exit route, a movement interaction, or an interrupt that uses the room. Tappytoon

Concrete decisions for the first Oath expedition

Oath’s design already uses three shared actions each turn, corpse tokens on the tile where a unit falls, a command range, a three-chamber expedition and a one-use revival. Keep a small set of interacting rules and measure whether it creates decisions on the board.

Decision Example board pressure Playtest signal
Spend the last action Kill a melee threat now to leave a shield body, or spend the action moving the caster out of a clearly marked attack. The shield can be raised next turn if its tile is reachable. Players make different choices because of positioning, the next threat and their remaining oath.
Choose the body A melee unit can reach a bell on its next turn, a shield unit can intercept an attack, and a ranged unit can take an exposed lane. The player has one action and one open squad slot. The same corpse type is not dominant in every chamber. Players explain what each choice opens up.
Keep the last bond alive A forecast shows the caster taking lethal damage followed by a wide sweep. A summon outside the sweep can save the caster at phase end. A summon inside it may disappear after the caster falls. Players can read the end-of-phase result from the forecast and avoid spending the last action on a move that only looks safe.
Position for command range A raised shield can block a doorway. The caster must move closer before commanding it, which exposes a flank. The longer-reach binding can keep its distance but has a different starting squad. Moving the caster changes which unit actions are possible and creates a genuine risk choice.
Finish or prepare The chamber exit is open. Advancing gives up the chance to raise a useful body or recover position. Longer fights risk the squad’s carried health. Players take the exit in some runs and invest in the room in others.

Boss pattern and forecast

The Bellkeeper can teach one counter at a time. A marked lane targets exposed summons. A narrow strike threatens the caster. A later ward protects the boss until a minion reaches a bell, a ranged hit breaks a ward, or the player endures the ward’s short duration. Choose one distinctive counter besides direct damage in the first build. Earlier encounters should teach the underlying interaction before asking the player to combine it with the survival link.

Show targets, resolution order and threatened tiles with shape and labels. Distinguish Caster falls, Oath consumed, and No summon survives the phase. Test a lethal strike when a summon survives, a lethal strike followed by the last summon dying, and a second lethal strike after the oath is spent. Treat exact Oath outcomes as testable game rules. The comic’s continuous damage transfer is a separate source mechanic. Subset Games on telegraphed attacks.

Corpse economy and run length

Start with the current Raise choice and a body on an occupied or dangerous tile. This already creates a cost in actions, position and capacity. Track what happens when the squad is full, when the last available body is out of range and when a newly raised unit would die in the forecast. If a room can start with no bodies, ensure there is a reachable first kill, an optional retreat or a single reserve summon. Decide whether a summoned unit leaves remains before adding any chain ability. A first detonation variant can spend one body for one short-range interrupt or splash. It should compete with reinforcement instead of ending the room by itself.

One deterministic room sequence keeps learning visible. Chamber one introduces a safe first Raise. Chamber two forces a choice between protecting the caster and spending the last action on a role-specific body. Chamber three combines the forecast with the last bond. Use the cracked bell as the clear objective and compare completion time with the proposed 10–15 minute target. Optional contracts and extraction timers can be tested after the base loop creates meaningful decisions. Manga Atlas tags

Use broad discoverable tags on the card, then attach evidence to deeper mechanics in the research view. For Scourge, the card can safely carry Class awakening, Necromancy, Dungeons and Leveling. Damage transfer, Summon command range, Corpse detonation and Timed training instance should link to specific episodes and sit inside an early-spoiler section. Keep Raise the fallen distinct from Summon undead so a story about magically creating skeletons and a story about raising a recent kill can match at different levels. Regression and Revival should also remain distinct. A rewind can retain memories and restore the world state, while an on-field recovery can preserve what happened in the fight.
