Story, powers & world
Rachel goes to the Tower to see the stars. Bam enters because he wants to find her. His first obstacle is an institution with its own ideas about who belongs inside. Headon sets an examination that Yuri considers unreasonable for a newcomer. Help comes in two forms that matter for different reasons. Evan gives Bam a way to understand the people around him, and Headon lets Yuri lend a weapon for the trial.

Opening recap3 notes
- The climbers want different things
Bam tries to keep Rachel from leaving. When a doorway opens, their goals split. Rachel wants to reach somewhere new, while Bam wants to recover a connection he already had.
- An insider objects to the first test
Yuri and Evan watch Bam face Headon’s trial. Evan identifies a white steel eel and says a threat of that strength is normally used above the twentieth floor. Yuri calls on Headon to lower the difficulty.
- Headon allows one form of intervention
Yuri argues that Bam appears too inexperienced for the challenge. Headon suggests that Yuri put her own weapon, the Black March, at his disposal. Bam still has to take the test himself.
Powers & world rules3 notes
- Entering and qualifying are separate
Yuri calls Bam an Irregular because he entered outside the ordinary selection process. The unusual way he got in still leaves him facing Headon’s exam.
- Translation is practical equipment
Bam cannot understand Yuri until Evan provides a Pocket. The device translates Tower languages, giving him access to information he needed before he could weigh the offer of help.
- The dangerous creature is an obstacle to a separate goal
The anime’s official recap describes the first test as breaking the ball in the eel’s cage. During the attempt, direct intervention would invalidate the result. The opening shows one examiner’s terms for this trial.

The Hall of Proxies
Original game concept
A short tactics game where each examiner posts a different pass condition. Rivals and sponsors can grant an action for one trial in exchange for a visible commitment that affects the next.
Core loop
- Read the objective and disqualification clause before selecting a route or accepting a loan.
- Spend focus on a small grid to distract a guard, carry a signal, or help another contestant earn credit.
- Allocate scarce passes, then advance with the allies, restrictions, and debts that choice created.
- What the player decides
- Borrow a tool that makes the crossing easy but obliges you to surrender one of two passes, or take a riskier crossing and keep the choice of who advances with you.
- First playable test
- Make three linked 5×5 trials with three rivals, two loan offers, fixed guard movement, and a visible focus budget. The final trial needs two complementary actions. Check whether players can explain a disqualification and discover two materially different parties. Keep the slice single-player with authored rival decisions.
