A player wakes as Penelope, the character with the worst odds in a dating game. Rules that once looked like a menu now determine how she can speak and what choices could kill her.

The player has seen how easily Ivonne, the heroine of easy mode, gains affection. Waking as Penelope in hard mode gives her a hostile starting role and a set of dangerous conversations.
She plans to get out, rescue Eckles, and use a possible route to improve her odds. An ally matters because reaching a favorable outcome requires navigating a hostile social situation.
Penelope is the character the player inhabits. Ivonne is the game’s easy-mode heroine. Their opposite positions explain why strategies learned on one route may fail on the other.
Eckles becomes part of Penelope’s early escape plan. The relationships surrounding the duke’s household can create either openings or immediate threats.

Courtship and standing have visible mechanical consequences. The same family and social roles carry different starting assumptions depending on whom the game casts as the lead.
In the comic’s opening, Penelope must choose among preset dialogue lines. Affection that drops too low can be fatal. The source novel’s first volume also explicitly describes meters starting below zero.
